This piece was painted as a donation to a Christmas program to raise money for hurricane victims. The theme of the program was "Comfort and Joy," and since it was Christmas, I thought right away about depicting and angel. Then I thought that including an image of Mary would really portray the emotion of the moment when Mary learned she would bear the Savior of the World. I based my images on old paintings of Mary and various angels to try and capture the wonder of this event.
