The Louisiana State Bird is a Brown Pelican. These large, unusual birds can be seen all over southern Louisiana, and they are a joy to see. Especially since they made an astounding comeback after being near extinction in the 60's and 70's due to DDT leaching into their eggs, making them too fragile to hatch. Thankfully, they are well out of danger now.
This painting was entered into the St. Charles Art Guild's annual Showcase on Oct. 26, 2023, and won First Place!
